Stanhopea

:waving
We've just realised that we have at least one Stanhopea sitting in conventional pots. It seems they need to be grown in baskets but which medium is best?:hmm

Thank you. Its a wonder they didn't die in their present pots. Will have to repot the Gongoras as well methinks.

being in a pot won't kill the plants.
they're planted in baskets to allow the spikes to grow out the bottom of the container.

As far as medium goes they'll take lots of different things, one grower i know who has a few hundred of them uses perlite and coconut coir, other growers i know use sphagnum moss. For the mesh around the bottom of the basket some people just use orange nets, others paperbark bark, wooden slatted pots, or even just more Sphag.

I might be wrong but i think with the Gongoras they tend to flower just over the edge of the pot so not sure if a basket would be 100% necessary. I think you can use a standard pot
