Stanhopea
:waving
We've just realised that we have at least one Stanhopea sitting in conventional pots. It seems they need to be grown in baskets but which medium is best?:hmm |
check out the AOS Culture sheet for Stanhopea

Thank you. Its a wonder they didn't die in their present pots. Will have to repot the Gongoras as well methinks.

being in a pot won't kill the plants.
they're planted in baskets to allow the spikes to grow out the bottom of the container. |
As far as medium goes they'll take lots of different things, one grower i know who has a few hundred of them uses perlite and coconut coir, other growers i know use sphagnum moss. For the mesh around the bottom of the basket some people just use orange nets, others paperbark bark, wooden slatted pots, or even just more Sphag.
I might be wrong but i think with the Gongoras they tend to flower just over the edge of the pot so not sure if a basket would be 100% necessary. I think you can use a standard pot |
