Oncidium maculatum

Relatively large flowers for Oncidium on this Mexican and Central American very perfumed species. I like very much Oncidium species that have white lips.

Very nice. I have never seen the real flowers of this species.

Those are beautiful flowers, Mauro--and I like the white-lipped oncidiums also. Can you provide some cultural information for your plant, please--light, water, temperature, etc.?

Steve

Dear Mauro,

You'll be appy to know that your plant is the true Oncidium aculatum. There are 3 very closely related species that are often misidentified - the others are O. hintoni and D. lindleyi. The taxonomy was excellently worked out in Orquidea(Mex.) 12:297-316.1992.

A lovely thing, Eric

It is gorgeous Mauro! I agree with you, the white lip looks super nice. Looks like has Santa's beard.:coverlaugh:

and if my keyboard didn't stick it would be true Oncidium maculatum, not aculatum.

Sorry about that, Eric

You are right, they are very similar, especially O. maculatum and O. hintoni in my opinion. Thanks for the hint on the literature!
