Ease of Culture, Aerangis fastuosa

I am getting a Aerangis fastuosa at our show in October and would like to know if it is difficult to grow/rebloom? I grow in a stand with Phals & ladyslipers & 2 (hopefully compact growing ) Phrags.

Any tips on successful Aerangis growing? It is a mountie

Mine (I have 2) are in the tank under really high humidity. I think high humidity is the secret for all Angraecoides. I have bloomed one of them once and the other has yet to bloom. I had the first one nearly two years in the tank before it bloomed.

Hi Ross, I have bloomed an Angraecum didieri (much to my delight and surprise to say the least). How different are these two?

The didieri was my last ditch effort into the Angraecoid world as every single one I have ever bought just sat there so as you can imagine there was one big happy dance going on here. When you remember I am a Quadrapelgic, that was some sight, I'll tell ya!.

didieri never bloomed for me when outside the tank. When I moved it into the tank directly under the lights (1800+ FCs) it bloomed withing a month. Now, it did very well with the green growth, but the blooms were non existant, till going into the tank. Has a 4th bloom soon to open and another right behind it.

Hi Ross, not too shabby! Mine only has one bloom and I have my "roots" crossed for more at its next cycle.

Have you ever grown Phrag Mini Grande or Phrag. Will Chantry? If so, can you tell me a bit about them? You cannot get these in Canada so I am lucky that I found out that OrchidWeb is attending a show in Winnipeg Manitoba. They are bringing plants ordered with them then shipping from there. Oh boy!

Do you have them mounted or in pots or something else completely? I am completely new to these and interested in learning more. I see they like high humidity and low light, but what about medium, mouted vs. pot, etc. Thanks to anyone who can help.

:hello JennS, the one I am getting is mounted. If you want an easy one to get your feet wet, try the Angraecum didieri. Its requirements are similiar to that of Phalaenopsis'. Mine is mounted and it hangs a few inches below the lights. It gets thoroughly misted once a day (occassionally two) and I soak it every other week (or so) in a dilluted fertilizer after wetting the mountie down to reduce burn.
