Spikes galore at my place!
My orchids have decided to be nice to me this month! Due to lack of space in the orchid travel bag, I only brought 3 of my 7 blooming size phals with me to university. To my amazement, all 3 are spiking!!:cheer: Two other of the 15 orchids that I brought are spiking now.
Mini mark has a tiny spike nubbins which grows very slowly. My noid I called Pink Panther (looks like the phal of that name) started a spike at the same time, but it much much bigger. And the third one was the biggest surprise! Normally I look for spikes on it nearly every day. I forgot to look the last 3 days, and now there's a nice spike!! And bonus, the keiki that I took off from it in march is also in spike again. I need to set up my grow lights and tie up the spikes, because the lack of light is making them go towards the window (no luck I was assigned a room with a north facing window:( ) I just wanted to share my happiness with you! Camille...everything looks happy, happy!
I guess University agrees with them ;) |
Camille,
Congratulations on your spikes! I just love those kind of surprises! :bowing :bowing I just noticed 3 new spikes forming on my Hwra. LavaBurst and I think there are 4, yes 4, spikes starting on my V. sanderiana :yikes: I'll post pics when and if they grow out! |
Camille, congrats! I'm glad they seem to be liking it there. What are your other two (non-Phals) that are in spike? Sounds like you are going to have a bloom filled winter!
|
Your so lucky, even with a north-facing window. I was assigned a room with a south facing window but have no flowers!:_( My epidendrum got too tall, so I had to take it home before it was impossible to transport, my SLC. Jewelbox Dark Waters is still recovering from the vendor who sold it (might bloom sometime in the next year:pray: , and I'm praying that my Onc. Twinkle will grow new roots soon (I underwaterd and underpotted):_(
At least I got to see my Phal. NOID during Thanksgiving. And my Hwra. Lava Burst Puanani (although it got underwatered so it and the cryptanthus growing in the pot with it look like the color has been leached out of them.) It's so hard to find good help these days (help meaning parents in this case:evil: ) Anywhooo...great looking plants. I'm happy for you but still jealous.  |
How wonderful, Camille! They look to be quite happy. I look forward to seeing pictures of the blooms.

CONGRATS!!! Need I ask what you've been doing to make your chids so happy?...
|
Looking good, Camille! Will look forward to more photos.
:) |
:cheer: Hooray Camille! Tis the season for Phals to begin spiking. Of my 16 Phals, 2 are in bloom, and 10 are in various stages of spiking. The other 4 are summer bloomers. I'd say we're going to have a very colorful winter!
My Mini Mark never quit blooming from this summer. It slowed down a little then the spike started growing again and I have a whole new set of buds! I noticed it's not as fragrant in the winter as it is in the summer. The scent must be heat activated. |
