I just bought one today. Hoping for mine to do as well.
What kind of light and food do you give yours for it to continually bloom? |
I use MSU fertilizer for rain water and fertilize every third week in winter and every other week in summer. It gets fairly high light as well. Actually all my plants get good strong light. I know there are lots of people who grow these in Phal light and have the same good results. Good luch with yours...is it in spike right now? I find they tend to slow down with flower production in the fall/winter months. The last bloom on mine was way back in September, then it rested until now. There is another bud forming behind this flower so i assume it's rested enough and will bloom frequently now for awhile.

I just checked my name tag, it looks very similar but mine is Psychopsis Mariposia. Yes it has one bloom. The guy I bought them from says his stay almost in continual bloom, as one flower falls off a new one if formed, and I do see another spot where a bud might form.
I sure hope so, I still haven't figured out if I like this one yet, but the pull of a ever blooming plant won out and it's already starting to grow on me. Thanks |
This is the plant that I posted in the advanced discussion I was having trouble with bud blast (well, that's what we narrowed it down to anyway). I think I need to give it some brighter light, as it keeps forming buds and then they shrivel up and that's the end of it. We'll see though! I definitely won't cut the stalk as I understand it just continually blooms from it - now I just need to get mine to go! Yours is beautiful though...just gorgeous!

My Psychopsis Mariposa just lost it's flower today, I just bought in on Saturday. My hope is that it had been open much longer than a few days.
I am getting a new bud but have no idea how long it takes to form. There are also two other growths that look like they might get a spike out of them sometime in the near future. I've been kinda confused about the growing conditions, everyone seems to say something different. Should it stay wet?. On the top of the medium is a small covering of moss , so I was assuming the grower wanted it to stay moist..:( :( Did you all know this color is called dark orchid. :) |
I don't have this particular Onc. but the ones I have get watered weekly (a bit more during summer rainy season). I grow them in bark mix.
|
They love lots of water but won't tolerate wet feet so make sure the medium dries out quickly. I have mine in a basket with a bit of loose sphagnum. I don't repot it either as they hate being disturbed...when it needed to move up a size i just broke the clay pot it was in and plopped the plant into the basket. I stuffed a bit of moss in the spaces and left the roots alone. It actually needs a bigger basket now so i just put it, old basket and all into a bigger strawberry basket.
