Cattleya Guatemalensis 'Red'
Uncommon red variety of this primary cross between Cattleya aurantiaca and Cattleya skinneri (or, Guarianthe aurantiaca and Guarianthe skinneri). Cattleya x guatemalensis is also found in the wild as a natural hybrid.
I almost lost this plant three years ago when I was replacing the plastic cover of the grh. I hadn't noticed, but the plant had been left in a corner, unprotected and exposed a whole day to the tropical summer sun... Needless to say that when I saw, it was almost completely cooked!! It took me three years to get it back to a healthier condition and now I'm really glad I can see these flowers again!!! |
Oh Mauro...that is stunning!
Great work! Someday, someday, someday...I'm going to show up on your doorstep! I'll be the one with the dazed look on my face ;) |

it,s awsome to say the least |
Simply Stunning!

I, of course, did a search for Cattleya Guatemalensis and found that the standard form is rather boring compared to this Red...which is nowhere to be found...except at Mauro's place and here on Orchidboard! :)

Really nice save, Mauro. She's a beauty! :)

Another GORGEOUS baby from your GH
|
A real beauty
Congrats on your rescue and recovery of this fine and unique Cattleya! I hope Don sees this one - I helped him decipher the tag of a Cattleya guatemalensis he has acquired recently :) IOSPE PHOTOS Sue, to challenge your 'boring' comparison which I understand is relative to Mauro 'Red', I still find C. guatemalensis quite beautiful :D ( I think you are biased because it does resemble Cattleya ( Cattlianthe) Chocolate Drop ;) ) :coverlaugh: |
