How to use size measurements
I have a copy of OrchidWiz and they(and other reference works) list a bunch of measurements there most of which I can't figure out the abbreviations for. Does anyone have the time and knowledge to list the word to which the abbreviations refer? Perhaps there is a glossary I can be referred to. I am not above doing my own research.
Also, do any of these measurements refer to the plant or just the blossom? Thanks Nick |
I don't have OrchidWiz, but perhaps you could list some of the abbrvs. you're wondering about?

NS= natural spread H= horizontal V= vertical DS= dorsal sepal VS= ventral sepal P= pouch LS= lateral sepals etc.....the sequence is natural spread horizontal, then vertical; dorsal sepal horizontal, then vertical; lateral sepals or ventral sepal width, then vertical; petals horizontal, then vertical; pouch or lip width, then length. If you hit the top of each column it will re-organize each according to lowest to highest number in each column. These measurements are just for the flowers. If the description is for a CHM or CBR then the size of the plant will also be indicated as well as a more scientific description of the plant and flowers. If I missed something, please ask as I am doing this at work from memory. |
