HELP!! Should I save it?
 

:hello folks,

I had all my chids outside for the summer and and just showered them every other day or so.
Today i started cleaning them to bring them back inside and found an Oncidium Noid that looked very bad. It had some spots before it went outside but now it looks very bad. The leaves all including the new growth show light yellow patches that turn brown. I am attaching some pics. Please let me know if I should chuck it or if i can help it in any way.

I am cleaning and spraying everybody else with Phyto before i put them back inside, and i cut off everything that looks suspicious.

The spots on the leaves might be from moisture. I've had some that looked much worse...no leaves...no roots...and just a few shriveled bulbs and they're finally making a come back.

Can't tell for sure if that is the famous black spots Oncidiums get from spraying or rot. In either case, if you treat the plant with Thiomyl once a weak over three weeks, it should stop any rot that may be occurring. It's fabulous how this stuff works to change a sunken yellow-brown area to a black spot at the heart of the rot area. If it's spots from the moisture (something they are prone to) this treatment won't cause any damage, but won't cure it either. At worst case, this is cosmetic, I feel.

I agree with Ross that it's cosmetic only. The plant still looks fairly healthy and, in time, those damaged leaves will drop off and, hopefully, you'll be happy with the new ones. I personally wouldn't scrap the orchid.

If its all cosmetic than its a keeper because it looks really with healthy new growth and juicy pseudos.
Can I safely assume that IF its a virus that i will notice it also in the general condition of the orchid? I will however keep it away from the rest of the crowd as a precaution.
