I am thinking. . ."Eat My Dust" is a very good name for a division that I am never gonna be able to afford! :faint:

this plant is on my wish list!

So what's the deal with this particular besseae, is it hardier? Or simply just a flawless flower formation? Or both?

Carl Austin 01-05-2014 11:25 PM

It's a scam. There ain't no besseae worth even half that.

Actually, there are plants that come from the Orchid Zone that really do sell for that much. And people pay it. Or, at least, they have in the past.

Dart21 01-06-2014 09:48 AM

I know that there are plants out there worth that much that really DO exist. I just don't see it in a besseae cross unless it was entirely indestructible and producing new growth twice per week hahaha... Figured it would be more along the lines of something new, undiscovered that someone finds and breeds and keeps to themselves and creates a wonderful variation on that particular species that hasn't even been seen... Now that's something I would be more inclined to pay for/believe in the valuation.

No-Pro-mwa 01-06-2014 10:45 AM

Not going on my wish list, yes it is beautiful but not that beautiful.

jeremyinsf 01-06-2014 10:46 AM

besseae has produced a massive amount of hybridization, so a great breeding flower can produce expensive offspring.

That flower is very large, and has an exceptional shape.

A breeding-level kovachii is probably worth 2-5x as much, because that would add the 'new' factor, even more so than besseae.
