Vanda ustii.
Only some years ago discovered at Luzon, Philippines.(2000) Very rare in Europe still...how about the States? Blooming for first time now. Another one will follow in a week or so. Wonderful scent. Closely related to V. tricolor and V. luzonica. Best regards! Peter |
Lovely, Peter :cloud9:
What size are the blooms? |
Wow, I would think that was a faded tricolor. Beautiful blooms. I dont think I have seen this one here in the states but sometimes you dont see it til there are too many, kinda like Phrag bess, I couldnt find it for the longest time til I went to a show and they were selling them for nothing. I will keep my eyes open for this one.

Hey peter,
That sure is beautiful... ...and I love that it is fragrant as well. I find the fragrant vandas to be my favorites. I appreciate that you've shared this beauty with us. As for finding V. ustii here in the US, I have not. After seeing yours here though, I am going to check on Sunday if they are at all available. I'll be visiting a well known vanda hybridizer...maybe he'll have one available. |

Nice one Peter, I see you are also a Vanda lover. I love the Vanda species. I've got a Vanda ustii flowering size outdoor which is going well. I'm just waiting for it to flower. They seem like a hardy Vanda. Just as tolerant as my Vanda tricolor suavis.

There should be some of these V. ustii in the States available...as some large Vanda nurseries have a very nice collection. Not many, maybe...as even in nature these Vandas are rare...
The size of the flowers are slightly bigger than V. tricolor. It is easy to grow...just like V. tricolor. Mine is most probably the first V. ustii blooming in Europe, as far as i know. North of Europe has not many Vanda growers, because of the lack of light here...and also Vandas take lot of space...growers with Vanda species are hard to find here. Let me know if you found V.ustii in the States! Regards again, Peter I just saw that Pheli has posted a message here at may 2007, showing his V. ustii in bloom! |

That is very pretty. Thanks for sharing it. I haven't seen any of them at the nurseries around here, but I will definitely keep my eyes open and look for one. I love it!
