New Growth atop cane. What is it?
 

Sorry to sound so dumb, but there is a new growth from the very tip of one of my Den. (NOID) canes.* The plant has 3 strong new canes that emerged from the rhizome over a month ago, but this new growth just began within the last 2 weeks.* Is it just the cane getting larger, a keiki, or what?:dumb:Apologies for the small pics.* Please go to my web page and scroll down to the link ' PICS FOR THE ORCHIDBOARD"**** Link will show as 'index'[/B][/B]index

it is hard to tell what it is because the picture is so small. could you post a bigger one?

It is a small pic, so it's immpossible to say for sure, but it does look like a small kkeiki growing up there (a closer examination will tell for sure)! :)
Some dendrobs are more prone to growing keikis, even atop healthy canes, at least that's what I've been told and also experienced in my collection. Pretty neat! :)

O.K. I got my magnifying glass out for this one and it was still difficult to tell. This could possibly be a bloom spike or a kieki.
With magnification it appears as though you have some reddish colored swollen areas at the top of this growth so I'm guessing bud formation. Keep an eye out on the nodes that run along the length of this cane. Some Dends will develop short bloom spikes at each node. You mentioned this was a NOID. How long have you had this plant, and has it ever bloomed for you before or lost it's leaves during winter? There are several varieties of Dends. I'm sorry our answers haven't been more specific. If you could post a larger pic. of the area in question and one of the entire plant we could give a more educated guess. Three new canes sound as though it's a healthy plant.:D

I hope the pics are better. Vista doesn't give me the options I am used to to resize.......

This plant was a gift and in bloom. It finished blooming 2-3 months ago and was repotted. Almost immediately teh new canes began to sprout. I do not know if the leaves drop, or not. Doesn't look so to this rookie.

Your pictures are still too small. It's not Vista. Select 640 as the size of the largest dimension and you you should be fine.

It still looks like a possible bloom spike to me. Were the previous blooms on long or short spikes?

The closer photo does look more like a spike to me, as opposed to a keiki. Umm...flowers....baby plant...flowers...baby plant...both seem like good chiices to me. :biggrin:
