Den. Canes shriveling...

I'm rather new to growing orchids, I have a Den which I bought not too long ago and the canes seemed a bit unhappy and now several of them are getting a bit shrivelled looking. I was thinking maybe I need to give it something to help develop more/new roots. Is there a treatment that could be purchased at a local nursery as waiting on online + shipping could be the time in which the orchid could continue to decline.

The one large nursery locally sells some orchid foods, but nothing specifically for orchid roots. One of the women working there told me to put Superthrive on my plants at home but didn't know if it would work on my orchid. Perhaps the pot is too small or kept too dry. I hear that Dens like being keep relatively moist but not wet.

THANKS.

greetings betwix! you are right about them not liking wet feet, one thing you could try is just keeping them on the damp side, drying out a little between waterings, and hopefully it will grow some more roots and be fine. :goodluck: P.S superthive might help if you can get it.

Thanks lil'brother. ;)

Yeah I think I might invest in a bottle of Superthrive...'cos I have lots of other plants here as well. Have you actually used it on orchids before? UGH.

They've been living outside, but I think I may need to invest in a table and bring them all inside (I have 3 pots of Dens. and 2 pots of Cym) The Cym are inside and seem quite happy---but they are cooler weathered orchids.

One of the weaker canes looks like it is developing a new cane from an eye---it's so hard to tell as they're only 3 days new.

Do you mist your Dens around the roots---they're marginally exposed. Like 1-3 cms around the base of the cane. And look pretty white.

well betwix i never used superthive before, but i it does have rooting hormones in it so it should help, and i don't have any dens:scratchhead: but i think you should mist its roots to encourage them to grow:goodluck:

hey miss twix!
I bought superthrive, never worked for me, I do say that KLN sprouted a ton of good roots on my plants in no time, I HIGHLY recommend that, a light % at every feeding :)
Its available online if you dont want to hassle yourself looking for it!! Get it and tell me what happens :D
