Pics of Phals with Thinning/dying Leaves?? Help plz!

Hi everyone!!

I have some Phals giving me some trouble :(

The are getting these Thinning spots on them, that I can literly see my fingers through!

The start out thinning, then totally dry out, as you'll see the progress in the pics:_( Of All different Phals, in all different stages.

I don't know what is causing these Spots like this? :scratchhead:

Any ideas out there?

What'd I do wrong? And what should I do to fix?? :hmm

And, will this kill my babies?? :(

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I strongly suspect rot in the leaves. I have been very successful using Thiomyl (which is a systemic registered for various types of leaf and crown rot). I found it here: Thiomyl OSG23: Camp Lot A Noise Tropicals CLON has lots of good stuff. Being it's a systemic, I would recommend cutting or scraping the rotten spots on the leaves and being sure there are good, viable roots. Drench the whole plant in the recommended mix and pour it through the pot. You should see the ugly spots start to dry up in a day or two. You should do this once again in a week or so. The ugly patches won't go away, but the rot should.

Thanks a bunch Ross, I have that stuf, thank God!! I will try that in a min!! Thanks!

But is it ok to just simply cut off the bad leaf on the plant? So it doesn't spread to others?

BTW, is it ok to use Thiomyl on all my babies? As I would hate for this to spread to everything else I have out in my chid hotel :(

Three things: first check your other post. I may have missed that this might be in full sun. If so, then the rot/decay is a result of sunburn.

Second, if you decide from these responses that leaf rot is the culprit, yes cutting the worst leaves is OK. Several here sprinkle the cut end with raw cinnamen and that might be a good idea. The leaves with small spots or not extensive spots, could simply be cut away (would leave a whole in leaf) ugly, but it would leaves the still-effective part of the leaf.

Third, I use Thiomyl routinely in my Orchidarium just to be sure something doesn't get started. Rot isn't normally transferred between plants, but if you get some, why not spray/soak the plants? Won't hurt them. Once you make up a batch you need to use it all in a few days anyways. It's a wettable powder, but does degrade over a few days.

Jkelee, either I'm a day late and a dollar short, nothing new for me, or you are relying on Ross to give you the correct information regarding your situation   But it seems you have deleted your pics from photobucket so none of us can chime in here....You know Ross sometimes gets carried away...he has too many things on the same burner. I've tried to tell him his cooktop has 4 burners

I can go to your photobucket site and see them but there is a notice on the board where the pics should be that they have been removed

I see the photo's. It looks like sunburn to me, although the leaves will rot away aswell. I've burn so many phals in the past its' not even funny
Many of the leaves look bad enough to take right off.
