Attack of the 'Arm-O-Grilla'!!!!
I found a tunnel under my greenhouse big enough to crawl in myself!! :_( No doubt, it was made by an armadillo who made the long trip all the way from Texas just to aggravate me. :((
I don't want to kill him/her!! But I don't want the little monster in my greenhouse, either. Is there anything I can spray to deter it? |
I wouldn't touch and definitely don't eat it. They do carry a form of leprosy .. https://www.msu.edu/~nixonjos/armadillo/research.html
I have no idea how to help you with this :dunno: Armies don't come this far up North. Perhaps these can help or give you ideas - https://www.msu.edu/~nixonjos/armadillo/problems.html Trapping the Nine-banded Armadillo Armadillo Control: Armadillo Trapping, Repellents |
I don' know if it will help but we spray with citronella oil to stop cats from scratching in our garden .It works really well.

How about watching Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern - TV Show - Travel Channel Andrew Zimmern would eat anything and I betcha he has eaten armidollo!
|
Ross - I have seen him eat armadillo on the show .. ICK! :faint:
but it looked like it was cooked very well-done .. Hopefully, for his sake, it killed the leprosy-causing bacterium. :gasp: |
Hi Debs,
I live in Fla. and we have lots of those critters. I've never heard of one harming a human. They're nocturnal and have long claws for foraging. If you'd like to catch him or trap him your best bet would probably be at night. |
I just did a little more research on the Armadillo and discovered their diet consists of insects, grubs, and other invertebrates. They nest in tunnels, so you might have more than one.
|
I wouldn't wig out too much, Dorothy. From what the article says, sounds like it is very rare to catch leprosy from them.
So remember to wash hands after handling and if you're hankerin' for a 'dillo-burger, have it well done. |
;) Paul .. just making sure I pass on the precaution to others
I like my meat on the rare side .. so I think I'll pass on the armadillo cuisine .. |

I don't believe I'll be dining on one any time soon. Rare or otherwise. :nono: Or touching one. I think I'll try the moth balls, first or something smelly and see if I can't get the critter to move along peacefully. Thanks again!! |
