Need to water my orchid? My trick.
Hi @all, :waving :hello
here my trick for everyone who is unsure, if their orchids needs to be watered or not. I put a thin wooden stick (f.e. chop-stick) as deep as possible into the pot. It stays there all the time, not only for testing. Not to harm the roots, I always use the same little hole again. When I remove the stick I can easily see or feel, if the orchid needs to be watered or not. When you hold the stick against your lips, you can feel, if the orchid is still humid. I think this is much easier than to use your finger. Love from kalla |
You must really love your orchids to test their humidity on your lips! JK..I wouldn't mind doing that. That is a great little trick. Thanks for sharing!

turkey baster
You may already know of this trick. When I need to remove water from the humidity tray and don't want to go for the full scrub routine, I just use a turkey baster to remove some water. Also can flush orchids with it. Good when in a hurry or you water a little too much.

Hi quiltingwacko,
if you believe it or not, that's the way my mom does, too  . Thank you so much! It could be fun and being interesting to collect more tricks. Tschüss, kalla |
oh wow this sounds alot more fool proof than my - water it once a week rule of thumb, especially becuase i use a terra cotta pot, so i can't see when its dry. Thanks!
