is there any chance this will root???

Early this morn, I was taking inventory of my Orchids...to see if any needed to be watered today...and I found a spike full of pretty blooms broken off! :_( I have no idea how/when this happened. I added this to my imaginary list of "things that are NOT making my day!". Luckily, I have another imaginary list of "things that ARE making my day", and I added "finding more roots on one of the plants outside" to it. :D Anyway, my question to you is most likely absolutely not possible, but just taking a shot in the dark, is there any chance this this spike may possibly root?? I know what you're probably thinking and I'm guessing that I'm thinking the same thing, but any input you may have will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking time to jot me a note.

When I told my husband what I asked all of you, he laughed bigtime. I told him..."it's not funny...the 'orchid-board-people' are smart...somebody might tell me it can be done, and trust me...I won't let you forget about laughing at me" lol

I agree...the blooms are so pretty! I enjoyed them every morn. as I ate breakfast. I think that's where I'm gonna put the vase, in fact.

While I doubt strongly the flower spike will root outside a lab environment, the good side is that with constant water in that vase, it will probably last as long as would have on the plant (Dendrobium.)

Thank you for the nice thought....that the blooms most likely will last as long in water as they would have on the plant....that's good to know. Sooo, that means that I'll get to enjoy them in the vase every morn. at breakfast for a long time. This Orchid has been blooming about 3 mo. for me, and the blooms still look like they're going strong. By the way, what you said about a lab environment is interesting....did I understand that there is a possiblity for a spike to root in that case? If so, awesome. :)

It's called "stem propogation" and works sometimes for certain orchids under certain conditions - in other words, maybe. :biggrin:

Hi Vicki. Sorry to be the one to give you the bad news but the spike will not grow any roots. The GOOD news is that your plant is beautiful and healthy. It will bloom again and you'll have something new to post for us to admire :biggrin::Tup:

Hi again Vicki...Well, I read the other posts...and that there is good news is the best ...you can still enjoy those beauties at breakfast...and she'll bloom again...Just wondered if you have any other orchids..Eileen
