Hi from Joethedad in the UK
Hi everyone,
I was surfing the net looking frantically for some help and guidance because the last of the flowers on one of my two phalaneopses fell off this morning. This looks a great site and I'll now look around to see whether others have had my problem. By the way, the leaves are very healthy and there is a nice new one growing. Bye for now Joe |
:hello - The blooms falling off a Phal is normal. Nothing lasts forever! :( As long as the plant is healthy, you should get a repeat performance next year. You can cut the spike off about an inch above where it comes out of the plant. If you cut it up higher, like above the third "notch" it may bloom again from that spike, but I would opt for letting it store up energy for next year.

Thanx Scruffy,
I'm off to do the cutting. By the way, the plant had 3 "branches" comong out of the Spike. I also notice there is a root shooting skywards from the base of the plant, where the leaves are growing. I guess this is OK. Right? Joe |

:hello Joe and :welcome: to the OB !!!! The only thing left to say is that once you cut the spike seal it with cinnamon powder or candle wax to prevent any type of infection. :goodluck: with your chids and post some :photo: . Here at the OB we love :photo: :photo:

 Sounds to me like that phal is a very happy camper. Growing blooming. Whatever you are doing, keep doing it.

Hi Joe, and welcome to the OB.
I just started posting stuff this week myself and have found the site to be informative and fun...I don't think anyone is too new to share their experience so that it can benefit others, so don't be shy to share yours. It sounds like you've already gotten great advice on your phals, and as stated before, keep doing whatever you're doing! |
