Den Angle Pink

I'm sure the name of this was supposed to be Den ANGEL Pink but due to a mis-spelling on the tag, it's ANGLE instead :coverlaugh:

I bought it as a seedling for $2.00 at the Redlands Festival on 5/21/05 which was 2 months after I started my addiction :) It has finally bloomed! It's in a 3" round basket with sphag and has grown to over 2 feet tall!

What a gorgeous specimen. that's some return on a $ 2.00 investment.:bowing :bowing

Thanks :)

LOL...$2.00 and 38 months of care! :faint:

I think it was worth it all :dance13:

Pretty blooms Susanne. Maybe Angle was correct. Those Dends. have that serpentine growth pattern when they get large...twisting and turning in all sorts of directions. I've tried and failed to keep the large ones contained but they just go where they want to. I accidentally broke a fresh 12" cane when I was trying to persuade it into a one of those large metal ring supports. It didn't break all the way through so I left it alone and DC'd water for a few days. It's been over a week since this mishap and it still looks green and hydrated.:crossfing

Got my fingers crossed for you, June :crossfing

Let us know how it turns out :)

I had no idea this plant would get so tall! I put it in this basket at the very beginning of my orchid journey and kept watching as the roots went crazy, crawling everywhere on the basket. Then the canes started popping up but not spiking...and now it will forever be in this tiny basket because there's just no way I'd be able to remove it with no damage...and it seems happy :)

I've got some tall ones too and man to they like to spread out. This spring I tried switching them to S/H at the onset of growth. I gave it 5 or 6 weeks and they just weren't responding as they should, so once again I repotted. This time using Coconut husk and charcoal with a bit of styrofoam in the bottom for drainage. I figured they would sulk, but instead they began producing tons of roots and new growth. One already had two blooming sessions and I have another with 2 fresh spikes being produced from the same cane. :cheer:

Cool!
We'll need :photo: when they bloom :cheer:

I have quite a few very tall Dens, some are 5 ft tall. I keep them around the pool with the pot sitting right on the ground. We came up with a great idea for moving them around when we have to, without having to reach all the way down to grab the pot. We attach the long metal pot hangers to them and it gives us a handle to use....and something to anchor the tall canes to. It works nicely :)

A number of the blooms have opened and show no sign of closing up anytime soon!

Thought I'd do an update here...

this chid just lost the first bloom from when it first bloomed which was July 18, 2008!

If I didn't know better, I would think the blooms just opened :coverlaugh:
