orchid mainiac hello
Hi Everyone,
I've been checking out this forum as a guest for far to long and have to join the conversations. Thank you all ahead of time for the knowledge I've gleaned as a guest and I hope I can contribute as a member... I'm a newly bitten orchid gardener, long a fan of the wild terrestrial types native to the northern boreal forests. What began with a single neglected phal has become a small collection. I grow mostly minis under lights and a few windowsills. I studied botany and thats led me down a species focused track. I know the hybrids are easier but the species just fascinates me, looking forward to learning more from you all, ospylac |
Hey alright! Great to have a student of botany among us! I'm just starting to learn botany.
Welcome to the board! Now, tell us more about your *MINIS*!!! You should take a look at my Orchidarium, chuck full of *MINIS* |

Hi Ospy...welcome :D
Glad you decided to join us...if you've been around for a while, you know that we have some great people here at OrchidBoard...and we all look forward to learning more about you and what you grow :) We'd love to see some pics :photo: and it would be great to meet you in the chat room some evening. We usually start arriving around 8pm est...hope to see you there :) I, too, find myself more interested in species but that doesn't stop me from picking up a NOID or two just because they're pretty :blushing: I also love mounted plants and I seem to be getting more interested in the mini's :) They're just too cute ;) |
Greetings ospy....its about time more lurkers decided to come around and join us. I don't like people reading over my shoulder either, but thats another story. Be sure to snap some pics of your chids

Welcome! It's great to have you here :)

Nice to 'see' you! So have you got any pictures you can post? We'd all like to see those minis.

I see from your location the terestials are probably Cymbidiums? I have been photographing ours over the years and still remember the carpets of orchids in the southern Oregon mountains. I'd love to hear about the terrestial orchids of your area (although, I suspect I already know what they are!) Welcome here and PLEASE share your experiences.

Thanks all for the warm welcome.
Yes, Cymbidiums are certainly the most common orchid in Maine. I've been watching a few C. acaule colonies for years and they certainly inspired my interest in orchids. Maine has many other species of orchids too; the widespread boreal favorite Calypso bulbosa is here though rare. take care, Garth |
