Pics; To Cut Or Not? String, rope, etc off of Mounts
Hi :waving
I got to know something; Is it Cool or Not, to cut off our strings, ropes, lines, etc off of our Mounts when our chids roots grab the wood that they are growing on?? As a pro grower here told me to do so. But I'm spooked, cause then the sphag falls off. Can you all Pro's help me out here?? Here's the pics all many different ones doing so; http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...dsRoots004.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...dsRoots005.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...dsRoots006.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...dsRoots007.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...dsRoots008.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...dsRoots010.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...dsRoots011.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...dsRoots012.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...dsRoots013.jpg |
i'm not a pro but i grow many things on mounts. i think that if the plant is established and you can water every day it's ok for the sphag to come off. just make sure the plant has firmly attatched itself to the mount or you will have to re-mount it.
hope this helps  |
I think it's a personal choice. I personally never clip off the strings unless I remount the plant. Moss soon covers the whole thing anyways (in my tank.)

I mount my phals so the string doesn't show in the first place so I will not be cutting it off until I have to re-mount......
I think it's really a personal choice and depends a lot on how often you can water. Al |
It is a personal choice to or not to cut the strings. I use fishing line which is less dominate than some line supports.

I like to cut mine off, but not until the strings are absolutely unneccessary. I would hold off cutting the strings on yours for another year probably. All of those mounts look very healthy! Ive also noticed that the spag is often held in place by the roots after the strings are taken off.

Hi Jackie:waving
Your mounts are looking great. I would let the fishline stay till the roots have a really good hold on the wood like a wrap around. I'd leave the moss there. Esp. here in Fl. some of it will fall off anyway but it looks like there is just enough to keep a little moisture for the chid. Nice job and they look happy with all the new roots:biggrin: |
