catasetum species question
 

I've read that there are numerous catasetum species that bloom from immature growths before a new pseudobulb is formed. But does anyone know if there are any species that bloom from a mature/newsly-formed pseudobulb? My NOID catasetum is forming four new growths; however, it's not showing any sign of a spike--and it's not a small seedling (largest pseudobulbs are in the neighborhood of seven to eight inches long by two inches in diameter). Since I know that it's very difficult to identify a catasetum based on only the look of its pseudobulbs, I'm trying to narrow my focus down to any species that may bloom at the end of their growth phase in the hopes that this might give me enough information to do some research to see what I can do to encourage it to bloom. Hmmm... I gotta say that IMO, the vast majority of Catasetinae spike after the maturation of the p-bulb. Thats why you see the most Catasetinae pics in the late summer and fall seasons. I think you're just gonna have to wait for blooms! However, 4 new growths is REALLY ambitious for any non specimen size orchid. You might actually have 4 new spikes coming up. Any pics?

I agree with Isurus79, all the catasetum I know bloom after maturation of the PBs. so you will most probably need to wait until the end of summer ;)

hmm. That makes my largest catasetum an oddball since it flowers mid-summer (in bud now) and then usually again at the end of the season. It is marked as macrocarpum but i rather fancy it is a similar related species.
