Dendrobium Green Elf... that smell!
Has anyone noticed that faint, almost imperceptible aroma of Green Elf flowers? I can't even begin to describe it, but I love that strange, other-worldly scent. It's not sweet like perfume, but it's more of a fruity, lemony smell. I really can't compare it to anything I've ever smelled before, but maybe someone with a better vocabulary for scents might be able to capture the essence of this incredible delight. I only wish it had a stronger scent, because you really have to put your nose right into a bunch of them to detect it. And the flowers only produce the scent at certain times of the day. But when they do... wow!

I've been eyeballing this one on the H&R website. I'm completely smitten with the Latouria Dens, and the color on yours is marvelous!
Welcome to the OB! :waving |
I have never noticed anything other then a general "plant smell". BUT it is my best grown orchid and I really can't reccomend it enough to you quiltergirl. The Latouria Dens are the only orchids that I am completly confident that I can bloom. :)

The Elf Smell
Try taking a deep whiff around mid day or afternoon, when the flowers are putting out scent. It's very faint, but if the flowers aren't too old, you should get some aroma.
My Green Elf seems to be resting now, but one stalk just sprouted and when it blooms I'll try to take some pictures. David |
