oncidiums pale and yellow in s/h
 

need some advice please. I move 5or 6 oncidiums into s/h 3 weeks ago and some don't look "lime green" but rather more pale green/yellow --- too much lite? water? Has anyone put Phychopsis in s/h --all I hear is to mount them on wood.....JD:drool:

Hi James,

the trick with S/H is to change the plants when they are activelly growing! This would let the new roots adapt to the new medium. Can you post some pics of your Oncidiums and maybe explain a bit your growing conditions, and how the plants were doing before they were moved to S/H? this would allow other members to give you better advice on what is happening to your plants....

As for Psychopsis (I assume that's what you mean) they can do well in S/H, but are abit tricky when changing them to this type of culture. However, and as always with S/H, it depends completelly on your growing conditions. Some plants do great in S/H for some people, but they do not like it at all by others!!! (e.g. Vanda, most people have no success with this Genus in S/H, some other report their plants do great in it!)

I have my two Psychopsis in S/H and tehy are doing very well now. However, I have the feeling they resented the change and stayed there doing NOTHING for a long time. I was even thinking of repotting them into a more traditional culture... then they started to produce new leaves and roots like crazy!

Ramon I'll work on some pics to see if we get a better idea of the overall condition ---I am a newbie to this plant culture and I may just be in to big a hurry to see growth and improvements in root structure. I will take some pictures and see if I can post them later today James
