Moving Polystachya, Dendr., Paph. and Zygopetalum to S/H culture

I'm about ready to move a couple plants over to S/H culture, but naturally have some questions before I do so.

I've searched the forums for Polystachya in S/H culture and couldn't find anything. So I was wondering if anyone has tried? The plant is ready - a large number of new roots have just started showing themselves and I've had the plant growing in stone drainage chips for a while and keeping it fairly moist. basically the only real difference with S/H is going to be more oxygen at the roots - I think?

The Dendr. is a D. 'Florida Twist' - an evergreen. Again, a large number of roots have just emerged from fairly new growth. Would this be a good candidate for S/H culture?

I was also wondering about Zygopetalums.. Are they sensitive to being repotted? I have 1 where new growth has just started and wondering if I should maybe wait until it's started showing new roots, or if it would be OK to transfer to S/H now.

I've also been browsing the S/H culture forums on OB over the last week or so, and found someone had mentioned that Paphs aren't too bothered when they're moved to S/H? I have a Paph. Armeni White (P. emersonii x P. armeniacum) that has been in bloom for a little over 5 months (well, 2 consecutive spikes). Is there any risk in moving this plant now at all?

Sorry, I know that's a lot to answer, but I've been waiting to do this for months now and have only just found a source for the medium. I'll be using Hydroton as shipping PrimeAgra would just be too expensive :(

About a year ago, I moved a Zygo into S/H. It is doing better than any of the other Zygo. I plan to move the rest of them into S/H .

Thanks, Marilyn. I'll do that this evening, then. Forgot to mention, it's still quite a small plant. Not sure of it's age, but measures no more than about 6" tall

Just be sure the rhizome is at the surface, and not submerged in the medium, or the zygo will rot.

yellowing oncidiums
 

Hey gang! Aquired a few oncidiums and moved them into s/h culture and some of them are very pale-to lite yellow? I have them in south window getting 45 minutes of soft sun and under 2- 5000K tubes--too much lite? to much H2O? I moved 5 to a outdoor table site hoping to dry them out faster -just for the weekend as NE Okla is already in the low 90's for highs and it gets real windy too. anyone put Phychopsis in s/h culture--not sure they will like that.

I know this is a REALLY old thread, but just want to confirm that people's Zygo's are still doing well before I move mine to S/H.

I did my first ever S/H potting yesterday with a Phal, then I thought of my poor Zygo. It was almost dead, just a shrivled p-bulb left and no roots... then it started growing a few months back... and now I've noticed the start of roots.

I'm thinking that getting it in to the S/H enviroment now before it's new roots grow but just wanted to check others are having success with these in S/H

I have three small zygo titanics that I had very little choice but to repot recently while they weren't growing new roots.All of them have since perked right up, lots of the old roots have converted (will probably rot later), lots of new root growth and filled out pseudo bulbs. I'm quite happy with the results. I hope that everyone else's conversions went the same way!

Thanks Rhynno. Still can't decide on this one, just would have liked to know from someone who knows about long term success, think I will give it a go anyway.

I remember reading something from Ray saying that he had success with them once he started putting the rhizome on the surface of the LECA or else they would rot. This is similar to his post above but if memory serves he seemed to indicate that he had success with zygos in s/h after that.
