Catt. leaf looks like an overripe banana
1 Attachment(s)
My Catt. 'paradise' (Blc. Hawaiian Passion x. Blc. Sakurahime) has started to look like an overripe banana (see attached). Here's a link to a time when it was healthy and in bloom:
http://www.orchidboard.com/community...d-me-home.html Any thoughts on what could be causing this type of leaf problem? You can see new growth on the left side of the picture. It sits in a relatively bright south facing window, but receives no direct light after 9am. The three other Catts and four phals in the same window are doing excellent. It's in the same medium that it was in when it was purchased four months ago. It was blooming when I purchased it. It is elevated above its saucer and so never sits in water. It is misted lightly every other day and soaked once per week. Any thoughts? |
Not sure what caused it, but it looks bacterial! I would cut the leaf off just above the p-bulb if it doesn't look like it has spread to the p-bulb. Then dust the cut with cinnamon, cross your fingers, and hope for the best. I am sure other's will chime in soon with more expertise then I can provide!

I had tree rats (!@#$%@%$ squirrels) pull down a piece of my shade netting outside - Catt leaves sunburned and turned black; could be too much light... :twocents:
|
the remaining leaves are fine, so I doubt it's the sun.
|
It just looks like an old leaf to me. Pull it off (Im guessing it'll just pop right off) and watch the p-bulb to see if it does anything. If it starts to change color then post another thread or update this one. However, my guess is that your plant is just fine and is just shedding a leaf. No biggie!

Cool, thanks for the responses.

I'm agreeing with Steve. If it just falls off or pops off and the pseudobulb is OK, don't sweat it.
|
I had a catt that I just divided that developed the same thing. I cut the leaf just above the p-bulb and everything seemed to be fine afterwards.
|
The leaf pulled off with hardly any effort and a healthy pseudobulb remains. Thanks everyone!
It's in the mid-60's here tonight with almost 80% humidity (first time in eight months), so I may send my plants on a camping trip to the back yard tonight... |
i agree with the others. the plant looks just fine.
