OK, I'll introduce myself!
 

After many e-mails recommending I introduce myself - here goes....

I am retired and have been growing orchids (more-or-less) over the last 30+ years. My Dad grew orchids before me and got me hooked. He grew mostly Cats, but I chose to grow species plus Phals. I have one Phal that has been in constant bloom for over 2 years - has never quit. I have recently taken to miniatures, due to space limitations, but any species orchids are OK by me. I have several E. Tampensis growing on Florida live oak bark slabs and they faithfully bloom each spring.

I am a professional photographer (in my post retirement days) and choose to record orchids, cacti, and native wildflowers. I hope to share my experiences and learn from other advanced growers.

Welcome to a fellow michigander. But you need to move a little farther south and east to get closer to the orchid nurseries... *grin*

I think not! I like driving south on I75 on Fridays and north on Sundays. I "love" seeing the long parking lot :-) If there are special events that require my attendence on weekends, I'll be there, but in the mean-time, I enjoy the peace and quiet of the northern lower penninsula - thanks... :-) I enjoy your comments regarding many of the questions.

Actually rush hour in Lansing only lasts a couple minutes... Unless it is going north out of town on Friday. Or it is the rush of jobs to some other state that isn't 100% dependent on the auto industry, that rush has been going on for a decade or so.

I'd love to move farther north, myself. I'm thinking Marquette... *grin* My wife is lobbying for Florida, ick.

Introduction
 

I am a semi-retired consultant living in the NE.
This is a bit scary since I don't have a clue about orchids. I became fascinated by them when I saw an orchid show in Germany and read my first Nero Wolf at age 14. But I never acted on my "secret" fascination other than to ooh and ahh when I saw one.
I have one orchid (bought at a plant sale), a George King "Serendipity" that I have been growing for 4 years...it has never flowered.
I hope to learn as much as I can and add to my "collection."

Well, we'll change that!!!

This is the place to learn about orchids and I'm sure you will be adding some 'chids to your collection once you've been around us for a while ;)
