Hypertufa mount project
5 Attachment(s)
Hi,
Last week i bought these slabs and tried my hand at mounting. I have never done it before :blushing: and found it very nice and easy with the slabs that had pre- drilled holes and all. It took all of 30 minutes to do the 3 mounts. I have some pics of before and after. Any comment/ suggestions are welcome Thanks for looking.:bowing Chumy |
Awesome! and quick, too :)

Good job. :D Anything pre-drilled makes the job easier.
I have not heard of Hypertufa:scratchhead: What is it, how heavy, what is it made of, what sizes are available? If that is a Phal be careful not to let water stay in the crown. I mount my phals so the top is downward or sideways to let water run off. What did you use for hanging. *FYI monofilm will get brittle over time. * |
That is just sooo beautiful. GREAT JOB
|
Really nice. I to would like to hear what they are made of.

Thank you for the comps. The hypertufa is a cement like material that is used to make troughs and planters. The material is very light and as it gets wet it gets stronger. They are made as you see with the piece of hollow wood or a drift wood and with holes so you don't have to make them, and holes to hang it. I think the nice lady also does custom work. To tie it i used regular string and one i used wire.
Lorraine: After i was done i realized that i should have put the phals in a different position, maybe i'll fix the big one because it has a deep crown the mini is ok, I think. What is monofilm? I have a Rhynchostylis gigantea RED would that be a good plant to mound? If not any suggestions. |
I think she meant mono filament which is fishing line.

Hi Soonix,
The mounts look great and easy! Please do fix the phals., the mini too. One cool night with water in the crown and you'll loose the plants.......voice of experiece speaking. AL |
Well, I'm one of those people that rather learn from someone else's mistakes, its to exhausting to make my own :whew . So those baby's are getting remounted today. Thanks

Great, glad to hear it! And, believe it or not, the phals will look even better in their natural position.
Remember, the roots grow up and out, so position the plants accordingly. Please give us some more pics when you are done. AL |
