So... this psychopsis was most definately NOT in bud when I brought it home last month and look at it now! The first picture is yesterday when it had just opened, and the other ones are today.

Next is my Sedirea japonica project plant. It is the Minmaru variety so it is smaller than the regular variety  It took a really long time to go from bud to open. It kind of got stuck halfway there, and seemed to have forgotten what it was doing. Now it's open and smelling like lemon

Then is the phal NOID that turned up in a pot with a labeled friend from walmart. I don't know what it is... but it went through some crazy root damage, and bloomed anyway. hurray! :cheer:

OMG! How cool! You got your butterfly orchid to bloom! Mine is still doing no-thing-at-all.

Your minmaru is looking awesome too! Love your pot and moss ball! I think your petals are more green than mine or the regular sedirea variety. . .very pretty. Mine didn't smell like lemons to me, more like roses.

Excellent work with the Phal!

Awww... thanks gwen

I dunno.. it could just be my nose and the fact that it's in the kitchen... I think it smells like lemon ;)

The psych is named Jay for the guy who bought it for me. Evidently he likes to tower over everyone else. He's a good 3 feet tall with that spike ;)

Very cool! I am looking to get a psychopsis tomorrow at the show. I have always wanted one.

All your orchids are beautiful!!! The color of your phal is amazing. It's always so rewarding when you save one and it gives you blooms. :) My Sedirea just opened it's buds and it smells sort of like lemons but my first thought was a citronella candle. Smell just like it! Mine is the regular sized one so I'm not sure if they would smell the same.

Your psychopsis is amazing! I think I'm going to have to get one now. :blushing: What is your culture like with this one? I know you haven't had it that long but you did get it to bloom. :) Just curious on if I could actually grow one. Phals are really the only orchid that like me! :_(

I think the big Sedireas and the mini sedireas smell the same. I had the chance to smell them both at the last show I went to, as there were displays with each

OK... so keep in mind this is my second Psychopsis.:(( My first one decided to commit suicide over a few months time after I moved last summer. What I have learned with the old one is that these guys do not like to be repotted (though I had to since I managed to drop him on the first day and break his pot, and after a few months, tape wasn't cutting it). They like a tight pot. They do not like to be over watered. Once a week should do it, if that much. They don't need crazy amounts of light. They do NOT like moving house!

I was actually afraid to get another one after the first one died... but then I spoke to a grower, and they laughed and told me not to even imagine how many they went through before they figured it out. And they had a greenhouse! The trick is to not overwhelm it... I think....

I just have it in the kitchen near the sliding door. West facing. Protected from direct light. They seem to be one of those, water once and leave alone type of plants... which is hard for me, because I like to fuss over them

Thanks for the info Shams! :bowing I think I may do okay with one. I've been having a little talk with myself about watering more often so maybe this guy will do well for me. :blushing: I like to fuss over mine too but I'm finding it hard to keep up with the watering! I don't think I should be thinking of getting another one but I can't help it. Yours is sooo cool! I've been looking at a couple online so now I have a decision to make. :hmm Thanks again! :)
