coconut coir as Mount?
Hi! I have some coconut coir that was supposed to be used as liner for hanging planters. Can I just cut that up and use it as a mount?
Does it decompose? |
Dianecty I have used coconut coir as a medium in baskets it seems to last forever. I would see no problem using it as a mount.

I mean just the hairy thing all tangled up. They only cost $1 at the dollar store for 1 big one so I can just cut them up and use them!! Thanks!

I can't understand you! coir means not hard thing.
Is it wrapt on some thing ? coirs can be used a medium and will take ages to decompose. |
Coir
Yes, I guess the one that is used as medium, but the one I used is the more compact,.more closely knit one used as hanging basket liners.
I tied my rootless phal on it. Have you used coir as a mount before? |
we wrap orchid plants with coir and mount them on trees.
We are coir producing country and they make rugs with coir .They can be hanged on trees. I can try on it .As a new idea. We just plant them on coconut husks and wood charcoal. Now I got your idea! |
Coir
ACtually, all I did was cut a rectangular piece of coir, put some sphag on it, tied it, put the orchid on it, then another layer of sphag and then tie it again so the plant doesn't fall out. I can send you a pix tomorrow.
