What about a spring 2025 project?

Well, the topic titel says it all. Anyone interested in a spring project?

If so, what plants would you like to grow?

FranningtonBear 03-24-2025 09:24 AM

I would be.

I have a hankering to try a Neo. but would be happy with whatever is decided.

I am a windowsill grower in the UK, so nothing too tropical please!

Blueszz 03-24-2025 11:45 AM

Windowsill grower in NL, summer and fall outdoors.

I have 2 Neo, can't get them to bloom. I know it's possible for me. I did look on a map, you are a bit more far up North than I am.

Hopefully more people chime in and have some suggestions. I'll look up if the Neofenetia (Vanda) wasn't a member project before.

Edit: yes it was, but that is a looong time ago. Spring 2008.

Here is an overview of part of the plants that were part of a member project: Projects - What Are They & Previous Project Plants

I would be, depending on what's chosen. Neo for me is probably not. They don't care for my environment or culture. Let's see what others have to say.

I like Dendrobium densiflorum.

What is your temperature range during the year and during day/night?

WaterWitchin 03-25-2025 02:44 PM

Most of what I grow is intermediate, with a few slipping into the cool to intermediate range, a few into the intermediate to warm range, and a couple that are in the warm to hot range. For a member project it's usually best to stick with something in the intermediate range and not a plant that gets gigantic; otherwise, less participation.

PS I'd be down with a Dendrobium species project. I've been wanting to grow a Den bigibbum and replace a Den kingianum I lost a few years ago.

Last year we ended up doing a Paph primary hybrid, and it seemed there was less hassle of trying to source when that kind of leeway was added. Just a thought, and I like easy.

I have the Paph primary hybrid. I got myself the Saint Swithin. What I liked about that project is that everyone could buy something they really liked within the primary hybrid group.

It might be a good idea to do something like that again. Choosing a group of plants, that way everyone can choose what fits the growing conditions best and the plant that speaks to them most.

Language barrier here: You wrote that you would be down with a Den. species project. Is that you are in or out?

I’ll have a look at what’s available here, not too common plants in the hobby would be nice as long as availability worldwide isn’t a problem. On the other hand, I would love to hear about the plants that are on the wishlist from our forum members. That would be a great start.

Curious what is on our members wishlist. Let us know what you would like to grow, it can be a great conversation starter. If you know an intermediate grower that stays on the smaller side, please share. Suggestions are very welcome!
That being said, I always have problems picking a small plant  despite I came back in the hobby saying I only would buy small species. I need some guidance here.

Being down for something = being very interested/guaranteed to be involved in the activity in question.
