Fragrant Phalenopsis flowers seem to be eaten by some pests.

Hi,
I've had this fragrant phal hybrid for about 2 years. Its reblooming for the first time. The flower spike looked super healthy then I moved it to another location and didn't notice for couple days and suddenly all the flower kind of died off except for 2 blooms that are still left but they look a bit deformed as if they have been eaten up. Could this be thrips damage? I'm attaching pictures of the flower spike in full bloom about a month ago and how it looks now. |
Sorry about the damage, cute little thing. Fragrance is a bonus.

Thrips usually damage tiny buds in spike, not so much open flowers. And I would expect a lot more flower damage than just that one spot, because there are usually many thrips.
It could have been a single insect, snail or slug, but again I would expect more damage than just that one area. Another possibility is the flower was bumped against something, and the edge folded over to the point it was damaged. |
Thanks Es for the response. You are right it could have been that the flowers rubbed against something. I will keep a close watch over it. I havent noticed any moving insects so far.

agreed with es...looks more like mechanical damage. does the new location have any pushed air drafts or currents?
best of luck! |
