Color break on Oncidium Sharry Baby ‘Red Fantasy’?

Welp…I’m not too excited about this plant potentially being virused—not like I can’t find another Sharry Baby, but this one had grown on me. These look nothing like the flowers on the last spike—the lips on the flowers of the former spike were that lavender shade without the white splotching.

What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Especially pink and red pigments can be affected by temperature during bud development. I doubt a virus is causing this.

Have you made any changes or treatments sonce youve noticed this?

They can vary from blossom to blossom, especially as temperatures and light levels change while they're developing. I would not be concerned.

Well that’s a relief—thanks for weighing in, ES! Temperatures have been unusually hot(flirting with the 90’s in the afternoon), but they’ve returned to more seasonal numbers.

No, I actually just noticed this after having been away for a week! Edited to say that there are still buds in development further up the spike—curious to see if those will have the white splotching since the temperature has stabilized.

Thanks, Ray! I was about ready to banish this one to an old dead trunk in the yard that was struck by lightning:rofl:
