Phal. kapuasensis
 

Hi all,

There were a few threads about this species a while back, but no recent updates so I'd be curious as to how everyone is doing with it. I got this one a few months ago, and so far I'm pleased with the progress. It looked very yellow to me when I got it, somewhat greener now, but I assume it's just that it had been kept in bright conditions in the past. It looked otherwise healthy.

A few days ago I noticed that it's actually starting to send out a spike, which I never expected to see so soon on a plant of this size, for a species that is closely related to gigantea.

hey mcd...we got 3 with a group import a couple years back, and within a year all met the circular file. pretty sad, cause they were sort of costly for how big and established they were, but that's importing, i suppose.

also i feel that perhaps because its a relatively new species to the trade there hasn't been as much line breeding to improve stability and adaptability (compared to other species that have been line bred for over 100 years basically), so therefore needs that real pro, soft touch to grow well....which we don't have!

not sure what we needed to do differently, but they didn't like our house, that's for sure. good luck with yours!
