Laelia anceps - Christmas blooms
This is the first opened bloom of the Christmas season (it blooms twicw a year, in winter and summer).
It is almost always outside, as you can see by its looks. Now it should have been brogut inside already as min temps are these days around 5ºC (41 F) but I'll see what will happen as temps like these are usually not log lasting. I count 13 spikes. Enjoy!:) https://i.postimg.cc/t1nGVNFV/20241209-155902.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/tsMHTMnj/20241209-155910.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/bsLPXJzd/20241209-152526.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/XrJbnbJL/20241209-152530.jpg |
It is so much fun watching that L anceps get bigger and even better year over year! I can't think of any reason to bring it inside for 5 deg C nights, especially if days are bright. If it gets down to -2 then maybe... clearly it thrives on a bit of abuse! I think L. anceps is one of the toughest orchids, even tougher than Cymbidiums.

I spent almost two months, by the end of the summer without watering it. In fact these are two plants, altough one of them is only a pbulb with two leaves...and a spike too. That pbulb got separated from the mother plant a few months ago due to careless manipulation. I intend to separate it but I must wait for new roots as its actual roots are deep into the pot. |
Almost all of them are open now...
