Hawaii Spectacular Offshoot
 

I have a Hawaii Spectacular plant which truly is spectacular. Once it started blooming about 6 years ago, it hasn't stopped. There are either flowers or spikes, sometimes up to 8 spikes at once.

The backside of the plant put out a LOT of air roots. We cut them off along with some of the leaves and stem. My question is --- if we set it up in a pot will it survive and grow?
It lives on my lanai in SW Florida.

Why did you cut off leaves and roots? And why do you want to take it from a place where it's thriving and stick in a pot?

Perhaps I wasn't clear about the plant. I am sending additional photos.
The first three are of the plant as it now looks. The fourth one shows the approximate location of the cut piece. The last one is of the piece we cut off.

The plant is huge, and the roots and leaves from the back were making it look like it would tip over.

I would just like to know if I could take the cuttings and put them in an orchid pot, which is what all the others are growing in. I don't know if it will survive and go on to produce more shoots and flowers.

Sure, just put it in a pot or mount it. Plenty there to do just fine. Yes, totally different perspective than your first post. I always cringe when someone starts talking about cutting air roots… obviously this is a different perspective.

What a happy plant! Now you have another one. Yay!

When you divide such a plant, it is best to keep each division to a minimum of 2 or 3 old growths plus one growth front, as they function as a "colony", creating and sharing resources.

If, after division, one part does not have a new growth beginning, hang onto it, as a new one may form from old, "dormant eyes".
