Miltonia in south Florida
I don't know of anyone who has a miltonia in their collection. Makes me wonder if it would be worth investing in one.
|
Miltonia or miltoniopsis? Two, entirely different critters from a culture perspective.
I have grown miltonia along side phals. Miltoniopsis have always been too cold-loving for me. |
Miltonia flavescens, moreliana and spectabilis should do well for you outside on a tree.

For South Florida, if you're growing outside, Miltonia are probably a better fit. Miltoniopsis seem to be better fit for indoor growing, especially if you're keeping it cooler at night than during the day. If you have a Trader Joe's near by, you can probably find a noid Miltoniopsis hybrid that's inexpensive. The ones near me have a lot of plants from Matsui. |
I have found Miltonia to be more forgiving at both ends of the temperature range. I have found them to be much easier to grow outside. My overall temps are a lot cooler than South Florida though. For me, Miltoniopsis are picky narrow range, the only one I have had success with is the species Miltoniopsis vexillaria
