Meet Sawyer - Our Yellow Lab/Black Mouth Cur Mix

Back in December '23, I adopted Sawyer from our local Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League. He had been abandoned, was malnourished and suffered from extreme anxiety. On top of all of that, this gentle-natured dog was heartworm positive :( That meant he would have to undergo a grueling set of painful injections and months of restricted exercise. I'm happy to say that Sawyer took it all like a trooper, finishing his treatment this past April :)

I knew from the beginning that it would be a great challenge getting Sawyer to a place of optimum health and emotional well-being. As you'll see, with tons of love, patience and pride, Sawyer is well on his way to living his best life. He is the bestest boi, too :blowkisses:

He is gorgeous!

So glad that he is doing well. Heartworm is terrible...I set an alarm on my phone each month so I do not forget the monthly pill.

The look in his eyes from Day 1 to present tells the whole story. Kudos for your rescue.:bowing

You're a HERO. Doesn't look like the same dog...he's perfection. You did a wonderful thing, Marie.

Sawyer is such a handsome guy, and he's clearly thriving with his loving family! Thank you so much for rescuing him and giving him such a great home. :)

Its always lovely to see the change in any animal that has been given that second chance.
Shame on those people who treat their animals so badly. The lack of empathy is astounding.

He is so handsome! And you are such a blessing for him. He looks amazing, you can see it in his eyes and his whole being! Good for you...and better for him! Sawyer I hope you live a long, healthy, happy life!

Thank you :) Yes, vigilance is crucial when protecting your fur baby from heart worms. Sawyer will have another antigen test done in November. I know in my heart that he will test negative :goodjob

Thank you, WaterWitchin! Sawyer's rescue works both ways -- he needed me and I needed him.

Thank you for your kind words, DeaC :) When I first saw Sawyer at Peggy Adams, I couldn't hold back the tears seeing him so skinny, tail tightly tucked under, patches of fur missing due to a skin condition or food allergy. He also had scars on the underside of his ears from insects chewing on them. When his beautiful eyes looked at me, I knew immediately that Sawyer was finally going home.

Thank you, Cheri! I agree that Sawyer is a handsome guy. His tan coat and floppy ears are so cool. He also has the signature webbed paws of a "water dog". Sawyer has a perfect mix of the best qualities of Yellow Labs and Black Mouth Curs.

I agree 100%. It's astounding how full our shelters and rescues are now with animals needing help. A large % of them in our US shelters are surrenders or returnees, too. It seems like it will be a never-ending problem. That truly breaks my heart :(

Thank you, Gpesci :) Your kind words mean the world to me and Sawyer. This very special dog has bonded with me and that is such an awesome feeling! I wish I could attach videos of him happily runny free, splashing in his new doggie pool, and pestering his "girlfriend" KitKat Kandi. You would be smiling with joy, I'm sure
