Using Epsom Salt
Is it safe to put orchids in an Epsom Salt soak? I read that the Epsom Salt would help slightly dehydrated pseudo bulbs plump back up.

Pseudobulbs may plump up if they take up more water. If it's available they will take up as much as they need. Adding anything to the water won't make it happen to a greater extent.
Water containing dissolved minerals in a concentration higher than what is in the plant may damage roots. Epsom salts contain magnesium, which is a mineral plants need for producing chlorophyll. If the fertilizer or water used contain magnesium, more is not needed. If magnesium is needed people use between 1/2 teaspoon and 1 Tablespoon per gallon of water, perhaps once every 3-4 weeks. |
Thank you. I read all kinds of crap on the web, but you can't believe everything you read. That's why I come to you guys. Since coming to this board, my orchids have grown so much better.

If you like to read and want to learn a lot about botany, consider getting a used copy of Botany by James Mauseth, now an emeritus professor of botany at the University of Texas.

Will do.
