My First Mount: Mini phal on mopani

Hellooo!

After seeing a post on Instagram from @botanygeek, and trawling Pinterest, I've found myself slightly obsessing over mounted orchids, they are just so gorgeous!

So after a weekend if research, here's my first mount. I went diving in the aquatic shop's mopani wood pallets to find the perfect piece. Boiled, then Wrapped with some sphagnum and loose thread. (See pics)

I've got a couple of extra bits of mopani wood and id love to do another mount, or on a terracotta pot with some peacock or java moss and a fern or something, just trying to find a research path to tell me which types I can use and examples! If anyone has any recommendations I'd greatly appreciate it 🙂

Put the plant on the mount and add a small pad of sphagnum on top of the roots, not under them.

Do 2-3 and learn how to care for them in your environment before diving in deeper. Plants on mounts need a lot more attention than do plants in pots.

Dp you know how much is your relative humidity (in summer and winter) where you're growing the plants?

Thanks for the feedback all 🙂

Ray - most of the sphagnum is on top, I could probably do with removing some as I went a little overboard

estación - yes I'll do a few more and figure out what the best methods are for my environment 🙂 I definitely realise they need a little more care, very much ready for the challenge

rbarata - I'm in the UK so its around 55% inside the house however I will get a hygrometer to keep track. I've got a plan for a glass cabinet to bump humidity
