Thelymitra roots and tuberoids
4 Attachment(s)
I know everyone appreciates a nice flower pic here, but I decided to post something for some of you who may be interested in knowing the growth habits of our plant friends from the genus Thelymitra.
I’ve found them to not be what I expected from a plant. I knew they grow roots, but I didn’t expect them to be extremely short and be green as well! There are 2 different individuals of Thelymitra rubra and 2 different individuals of Thelymitra luteocillium attached. The two Thelymitra luteocillium shows how the species forms what I believe will be a tuberoid. |

Here’s one of the Thelymitra luteocillium growing a new shoot with tuberoid.

Great pix! Thanks! I knew the roots came from the area of the base of the growing stem - hence the fact that "up" is where the new growth is starting - but had never seen it since my tubers are always nestled in their pots by the time they start to grow, and the roots are pretty much gone by the time they get repotted when they're dormant.
