my phal antarctic is in extremely bad shape i just was going to repot it after coming back from my vacation. i saw that out of its four leaves it has lost 3 leaves and the last leaf is dark green and plump but has 2 horrible scrorched yellow marks. no sign of growth is seen. and it has about 6 medium sized roots which are just satisfactory.

I don't know what to tell you. You may lose it. You may save it. At this point it's up to the plant.

If the roots are still alive and strong enough, then maybe the plant will grow a new shoot even with that one leaf (or no leaves).

Good luck. I think you've done all you can do.

yes it has green and plump roots. so, then do you think it will remain alive.

I had something similar happening..... this is what I did:

Orchids R Great | My Orchids

My 2 Orchids have more roots now and each of them has a new leaf coming....

keep it watering, keep it in a warm humid place. it will survive. My phal had done the same, i didn't want to give up hope. I kept watering and put it in the bathroom, which is west facing and get filtered sunlight and humidity. It has started making a 'keiki' baby orchid and looks like its surviving.

so what's the problem? is it unhappy because it didn't get watered on your vacation? or is it unhappy because someone else overwatered it while you were away?

I would actually be very careful not to overwater it. It only has 6 roots, so frankly it can't take up a lot of water. Safer to use as small a pot as required and allow it to dry out between each water. If that remaining leaf goes limp, you know it might need watering, if it stays thick, it's happy.

If the yellow streaking is spreading, it probably means that leaf is going too. In that case, the plant will die, and you can hope for a keiki, but the plant will still die. If that leaf holds (and there's no reason it can't), then careful watering should bring it back.
