Help with identification of leaf spotting
2 Attachment(s)
Hi, all, been trying to grow Phalaneopsis for years, and this is my first attempt at being serious about it and building a collection. :hello I love the great information on this board that I’ve been reading.
I’m attaching some photos of a spotting problem on some of the leaves of this Phal that I’ve had since purchasing in December. I bought it from Norman’s Orchids (I know, I was warned! I saw bad comments, but I really wanted certain plants). Overall, the plant seems to be doing well and is flowering very well, but these spots seem to never go away and have grown slightly larger. It’s also started to produce a keiki, which might be indicating it’s under stress. Can anyone identify what might be causing the spots and if it’s going to turn into something serious that kills the plant? So far it otherwise seems healthy. |

Can you post a pic of the whole plant?

If you are talking about that circular mark, from the photos it seems that something "bit" the leave. From the photos it doesn't seems to be a concerning issue.
Monitor it to see if the spot increases its size. But for now I would do nothing or, to speed up the cicatrization process, you can put just a little bit of cinnamon on top of the spot (just a little bit, don't put it anywhere else). |
Thanks, Roberta! Will dab on a bit of cinnamon. Have tried some hydrogen peroxide. Seemed to have no effect.

Actually the previous post was from rbarata, not me... Peroxide is not very useful- and if it gets on roots, can be harmful.
The spot won't go away.. your only concern would be to determine that it isn't spreading. A trick for that is to draw a circle around it with a Sharpie - the human eye is much better at comparisons than absolute measurements. |
