Mystery black dots on my masdevallia
1 Attachment(s)
Anyone know if these black dots are part of the nature of this plant or if its something I should action on?
This is a masdevallia lychniphora |
I don't think that they're part of the natural colors of the leaves. An important question is, "Are they getting bigger?" One way to determine that is to draw a circle around the spots with a Sharpie, and just observe. If getting bigger, or spreading to other leaves, maybe an issue. If not, likely not a problem. Other folks on the Board are much more knowledgeable than I am on possible diseases and treatments.

Thanks Roberta, I think that's the right approach as well. Maybe I'll spray with Physan (just a drop in 4 oz water) just to be safe.

Black spots generally come from cultural issues. Be sure temperatures and humidity are correct before spraying blindly.

agree with watching them. I get lots of small black dots due to heat stress. My problem is that I like coccinea, veitchiana. They do not like 83 degree summer days in my greenhouse. Now that it is cooler the new growth is clear green.

It must have been from the grow house that it came from. My house is basically a fridge so maybe it will do better now.
