Beautiful! Whole plant? I realize the spikes may spread wider than your balcony.

Time flies... I remember when you selected that long, shallow pot to accommodate the creeping habit of L. anceps. How many years? It certainly seems to enjoy its home!

Roberta, I remember when I put in that pot. It was back in 2015, still a small plant. It suffers during our cold weather, as you can see in the photos. Cold and full sun (as usual in our winter) takes a toll. Now it's inside until night temps start to rise. I'm expecting the leaves to recover their "normal" light green in a month or so. https://i.postimg.cc/tYb33JH4/20231223-132030.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/mhC31MJn/20231223-132054.jpg |
Suffering leading to 8 spikes... plant may look unattractive, but wow! These thrive on abuse.

Considering it spends 9 to 10 months under full sun, with several days over 40°C (104 F), without any complaints, I find id it odd what happens in cold weather.
Last year the planf became completely dark purple. 20230128 125815 — Postimages |
I also think it is really interesting that the color change is reversible. Like perhaps it shuts down chlorophyll production when it is cold, and restarts it with warmth.

Last year I considered a Mg deficiency as one of the symptoms is this purple in cold weather. But the other symptoms did not show, so I forgot it.

Many plants from many different families turn purple with cold weather.

Hello everyone, I wanted your advice: I have 2 mounted laelia anceps that have a floral spikes for three months but the flower does not mature. The seller told me that I could keep them outside even in winter but now I think that the minimum temperatures here in Florence (Italy) of 4-6 C do not allow them to bloom. What do you think, maybe it's better if I put it inside?
