Maxillaria Sanguinea
Does anyone grow Maxillaria Sanguinea? I'm wondering if it requires a winter dry rest like tenufolia....
|
Bump!
There is no Baker Sheet for this species... I am pretty spoiled by the Baker Sheets and not having a cheat sheet for this species is giving me some light anxiety... Does anyone know if the tenufolia or variabilis Baker Sheets would be similar to Sanguinea? Maxillaria is such an underrated alliance... |
Looked up the species... it is somewhat lower elevation than Max tenuifolia or variabilis. I grow both tenuifoia and variabilis outside, don't dry them out, the chill probably compensates for the dryness they don't get. M. sanguinea being lower elevation probably would not be happy with the cold. I wonder if it experiences much of a dry period since it grows in rainforest?

I have a sanguinea. It stays indoors and is watered throughout the year, no winter dry rest.
It does not enjoy the cold. Here's some cultural info from Andy's: Andy's Orchids' |

Can't help in the least, but just have to say that I wasn't familiar with this maxillaria species until now and it looks great! I have a (gigantic) tenuifolia which I love, and always wanted to ask a few smaller species to the collection. This might be the one.

I think it was Patty (now non active member sadly) who had a really nice collection of Maxillaria, including quite a number of miniatures that were just so cute. A shame she's left.
