Alicearia blooming question

Hey All,

I have an alicearia that I got in april or so that had 2 sheaths off of a very large pseudobulb. I was hoping that these would produce a flower spike but not sure on the development sequence of things. Anyways I now see 2 pseudobulbs, I thought the leafy sheaths may produce aa spike. from what I am reading once these PB mature they will produce side spikes that will eventually bloom if all goes well. About how long does it take for a PB to mature. I have only noticed the PB these past 2 weeks. They are about half the size of the last one, largest PB. But I do realize that due to stress of new environment and repotting back a few months that they may not be as big as last ones nor may bloom. the roots have established itself really well considering my cat got did a good job on the leaves and took off the supports that had them staked to which are now solid and a stable plant. Thanks all in advance.

Not sure how many pseudobulbs it had when you got it. Normal sequence of mature, flowering sized Oncidium intergenerics is to form one or more growths from the base. The new growths send up flower spikes from their lower sides when they are anywhere from half to full grown, depending on the cross. Then the matured growths begin new growths, and the process starts all over again.

If your plant had only one large pseudobulb, it might not be big enough to flower yet.

I only have one of this 'naming' of cross, and it was pretty precocious (blooming on the 2nd PB), but at least for me, the spike didn't initiate till just before the next growth started. It's in no hurry really :)

Mnot counting the 2 new ones forming I have around 5...one is tiny with a yellow leaf..I'm sure that leaf will fall soon and probably the oldest psedobulb...I'll just sit back and wait and see...thanks guys

Sounds like you have a mericlone that hasn't flowered yet. It should soon.
