Sunburnt leaf just fell off Cattleya on its own..
 

Hello all,
I was moving my plants this morning, and this leaf just fell off as I picked the plant up. I did not jerk the plant or anything, it just fell off D:
Will the other sunburnt leaves fall off too? Will this leaf grow back at some point? Is the plant okay?

That's what leaves do when they reach a certain point of not being viable anymore. They drop off. Nothing you can do about it. If other sunburned leaves turn completely yellow like that one was, yes, they will sooner or later fall off. No, a new leaf won't grow in the same place that one was.

Is your plant okay? We would have to see a picture of the actual plant in its current condition to even afford a guess....

That other completely yellow leaf is going to fall off sooner or later. You have lots of dry roots at top from what I can see. Don't cut them though. Hopefully there are viable roots down in the medium. Don't unpot it just to see. Keep up your regularly watering schedule. How long have you had this plant?

I have had this one for about 2 months now. :D

Hopefully someone else will chime in about the current condition of potting medium and root system.

I'm not a good person to take advice from regarding repotting a Cattleya because I don't follow the rules of thumb well about why and when to repot, especially in a bark medium. Were it mine it would have already been unpotted, examined, and repotted. But that's not good advice to follow. I believe most folks with knowledge say don't repot catts unless they're in active root growth.

Would it be harmful to repot this cattleya?


It has been repotted yesterday.
I noticed this morning, the leaves look much richer in (green) color after repotting..It has been without a pot for a couple days. That's why I was confused why one fell off! XD
It was purchased in bark. I water everyday now..following the advice I was given.

A freshly-repotted orchid seems to look better right off. (You can almost hear them sigh with pleasure :) ) But you won't see real change that fast. Patience, patience. Orchids will show their response to good care over a period of months, not days or hours. Consistency after the first flush of excitement is soooo important.

You are so right! I should put a poster above the orchids that says "patience!" Haha! The excitement alone gives me a placebo effect!!!! :D ❤️

It’s completely understandable to be impatient. When I get into that orchid mood, I could sit there and stare at them for a long time. That’s why Ive acquired a lot of them. So I can look at them and always be excited for new progress.

From what I can see in the picture, they’ll be fine like that. The roots may be exposed but they’ll still absorb moisture. And some sunburnt leaves will even stay viable for a long time. They’ll just look ugly to continuously remind you of what you did for a long time. Mine still have sunburnt leaves from last year to tell all about my sins.

Icarus on this forum has some great videos on cattleyas on YouTube by the name Stephen Van Kampen-Lewis. You should give them a watch for some great advice on cattleya care.
