My first mounted orchid.(pics)
 

Theres a first for all things, they say, and also for this. :)
I have a phal i got for free, and it didnt seem to like its environement in the pot it came with.
I decided to repot the poor thing, and mabye try something new.
This is quite a small phal, and its got some discolor on the leaves. I figured id give mounting a shot, and place it into my mini greenhouse with a lots of seeds.
Its a moisty invironement.

I used a wooden-root with a natural small cave with a hole to mount the little phal.
Then I tangled the phals roots thru the hole and around the wood, used Sphagnum mose around and inside to fit the phal into the cave. And some small bites of bark to increase dreining betwen some of the smaller roots. Pulled some sphagnum mose around the hole root-system, and used larger bark to protect the roots from where the string crosses over them to keeps it all together. I used hamp-wire as string (hope it wount decompose to fast... :roll: )

Id be happy is someone had any coments on this? Does it look as it should?

Good job mounting. You never know exactly what it "should" look like only an idea of what you want to do to make it happy. The more you mount the more ideas you will get. Have fun and enjoy your little phal.:)

I'm curiuous - It looks like a hybrid .. did it come named? :hmm

No, most of my orchids were just named "Orchid/phalanopsis", and thats it... :roll: This one didnt even had a tag at all.
This one had no flowers either, thats why i got i free in the store. So im just as curious as you! :lol:
And this poor one probably needs some time before blooming.

I have ten orchids, three of them have been looking poorly (two i got like that, the other one was placed in a car overnight as a surprise for me, but this was winter and freezing outside... :roll: )
All three looks better now, but not good.
The firt obni mounted yesterday, the other two got mounted today.
We`ll see if this mabe will do the tric! :)

Remember to allow the moss to dry out .. you don't want root rot .. :)
