I was told this orchid is of the encyclia, I am not sure, this one has this bloom and one more on the left ready to open and then 2 more on the right that will be a few days before the start to pen. I like it, hope it flowers for a long time, I have it on my orchid booth, once the others bloom I will bring it upstairs as they seem to last longer when not on the light booth. I water once a week if needed with rain water and the lights are on for about 10 hours.

This is a Phragmipedium. You should water it more often - these don't like to dry out at all. If the air is dry, it would even benefit by sitting in a shallow pan of water. Using pure water like rainwater or RO water is definitely beneficial. But you do need to keep it damp.
These do tend to bloom sequentially on a spike, dropping the older flower when it still looks good. So don't be concerned if what looks like a perfect flower drops, that's just what Phrags do. |
