hey all,

since i was commenting on it in another thread, i just thought it was worth posting up some recent observations of max schunkeana.

we had it growing along with our phals and other plants, but then, out of necessity, moved it into a much colder environment. the first one we moved (the one shown in the pic) started blooming again and began putting on several new growths. so we moved the onther one in next to it a couple weeks ago and now its starting to rebloom.

so clearly, these guys like a colder winter! just thought that might be helpful for anyone looking for info. love how dark the winter flowers are!! this plants flowers have a lighter colored petiole, but the other plants have a dark purple one, that really makes the picture complete. hopefully we can show a couple blooms of it soon. anyways, love these maxis!!

Oh! Thank you for the info. I have a little one of these just hanging out right now. How cold is cold in your environment?

hey sunfire,

well, honestly i don’t have the thermometer in there, but estimated around 12c (50-55 f) but probably lower (it’s cold in there). they are against the window. one thing we r blessed with that many others may not have is super humidity. it has been 90% + for the last week and we don’t do any environment control in that room, so the windows are pretty much full of moisture all the time (yeah, mold, i know)
we have always misted our maxis, so we knew before that they liked high humidity.
